Welcome to You Ask Andy

Alice Read., age 10, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for her question:

How fast does Saturn turn?

Giant Saturn rotates on its axis and the dazzling rings above its equator also spin around, in the some direction. The planet is more ten times larger than the earth and you would expect it to take longer to turn around on its axis. But not at all. Saturn turns all the way around in a little move than ten hours.

At its equator, Saturn rotates in about ten hours and 14 minutes. Near its poles, the big planet rotates in about ten hours and 35 minutes. This means that the surface of Saturn is not made of solid material like the rocky crust of the earth. Some experts suggest that it may be a mute mixture of frozen and partly f'rozen gases.
