Mark Seligh, age i2, of Wichita, Kans., for his question:

What is the Peru Current?

This Sweeping ocean current parallels the shores of Peru, which is why it was

named. It has, however, another and a more common name. Most people call this great River in the sea the Humboldt Current. As such, it was made famous by Thor Heyerdah'sVoyage on the Kon Tiki.

The Humboldt, alias the Peru Current is an Ocean going river in the South Pacific. It begins in the Antarctic and sweeps its chilly waters northward almost to the equator. Then it bends Westward in a long, long journey across the vast Pacific.
