How many known galaxies are there?

We know about the distant galaxies from photographs taken by the probing eye of the telescope. The 100 inch telescope. can. :spy in the sky for a distance of 1,000 light years in all directions. Astronomers estimate that there are about 100 million galaxies in this vast ocean of space.

The 200 inch telescope can spy even farther and its pictures show that even these remote reaches of space are populated with galaxies. But the work of this telescope is not yet complete and the number of known galaxies is growing all the time.
