WHERE DO WORMS LIVE IN WINTER?

The earthworm is a cold blooded creature, and the frosty ground is too much for him. However, in our part of the world the frost does not penetrate very deep, even in the severest winters. In fall, as the surface dirt grows cooler, the worm goes deeper—and he is quite capable of burrowing down several feet. Down there, in the depths of his tunnel, he coils his wormy body in a tight wad and waits until spring returns to warm up the surface.
