Welcome to You Ask Andy

Thomas Agatone, age 12,  of Penn, for his question‑,

How hot is the planet Mercury?

Mercury is the baby of the planet family and stays close to papa. Papa, of course, is old Father Sot and very, very hot. The little fellow is lass than half the size of the earth and we are almost three times further away from the sun. What's more, Mercury does riot have changing day and night as we do. One side always faces the blazing sun. The opposite side faces out towards bitter cold and eternal night.

Ono side of Mercury, then, is blazing hot, the other bitter cold. The side facing the sun is estimated to be around 350 degrees ' Centigrade  which is hot enough to melt lead. The other side is near absolute zero, which is minus 273 degrees Centigrade. Little Mercury only some 36 million miles from the sun, is the hottest and also one of the coldest planets.
